How a pulse jet dust collector works

Four simple steps keep the air clean and the filter running.

  1. 1

    Dirty air enters

Dust laden air is pulled into the hopper and slows down. Heavy particles drop out first.

  2. 2

    Media catches dust

Air passes through filter bags or cartridges. Dust stays on the outside of the media and builds up as a cake.

  3. 3

    Pulse jet cleans

A short burst of compressed air from the solenoid valve shakes the dust cake off the media, one row at a time.

  4. 4

    Clean air leaves

Filtered air exits through the fan. Collected dust leaves through the rotary airlock valve.

Main parts

What is inside the collector

We make or supply every one of these parts.

Hopper

Collects the heavy dust that drops out as air slows down.

Filter bags or cartridges

Hold the dust on the outside of the media while clean air passes through.

Support cages

Keep the bags open and in shape during filtering.

Solenoid pulse valves and timer

Release a short burst of compressed air in sequence to clean the media.

Rotary airlock valve

Lets the collected dust out of the hopper without letting air in.

Fan or blower

Pulls the air through the system and out through the clean air side.
